Nigeria's National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the nation's presidential election for January 22, 2010.
The National Assembly polls will take place on January 15, while the governorship and House of Assembly elections will hold on January 29.
Any run-off for governorship and presidential election will be held seven days after the announcement of the result of the poll election.
But the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has predicted post-election crisis because of the provisions of the amended Electoral Act which now make the Court of Appeal the court of first instance (original jurisdiction) in election petitions.

The Board of Directors of Merchant Bank Ghana Limited has for the first time broken its silence on recent developments at the Bank. Peter Iliasu’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the bank has been terminated. Though the Board did not give any reason for Mr Iliasu’s disappointment, a statement issued by the Bank says the decision was taken with a lot of deliberation to protect the Bank, its shareholders and employees. “Our efforts are directed towards pursuing sound corporate practices, sound governance, and ensuring that the fiduciary responsibilities placed on the Directors are executed in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders.”

Mr Dai Jones, President and General Manager of Tullow Oil, has said the scheduled production of oil from the jubilee fields by December this year, would never fail. “We have promised the people and government of Ghana that we will deliver crude oil before the end of the year.” he emphasized. “All the necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth flow of oil.” Mr Jones was responding to the appeal of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to the management of Tullow Oil Company to strive to surmount all challenges and stay on schedule in the production of the country’s first oil in commercial quantities.

The army is conducting joint patrols with the police in Nigeria's northern city of Maiduguri after a wave of killings blamed on the Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
The police have also banned riding motorcycles at night as several of the shootings were carried out by people on motorbikes.
Twelve people, including seven policemen, have died in the past month. |

A Magistrate court in Sekondi-Ghana has remanded a 15-year-old Junior High School, who attempted to rape Madam Elizabeth Cudjoe, 48, at gun point on her farm. The boy was charged with attempting to commit crime, possessing fire arms and threat of death. |
