The head of seismic sensing and monitoring unit of the Geological Services of Ghana, Mr. Sylvanus Ahulu has confirmed that a magnitude 3.0 tremor last
night hit Nyenyaanu a suburb in the Central region of Ghana.  

Residents of Nyenyaanu which is predominately a fishing community indicated that they felt shocks in the ground and visibly saw most of fixed objects shake
during the tremor which lasted under a minute by 5pm local time.

 

The last time shocks were experienced in Nyenyaanu and Weija were in 1936 and 1939 respectively. Accra also recorded some tremors in 1997.

It will be recalled that Adepa carried news item in the event of the Haitain quake that the Government of Ghana has released three (3) million dollars
for the purchase of seismograph machine.  Mr. Ahulu did also confirmed the purchase of the machine which is currently undergoing installation at the Center
for Remote Sensing and Geographical Information services (CERGIS) to monitor shocks and tremors.
