I CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW

Your understanding as to why king Jesus and his disciples are not seen vividly using musical instruments in the new testament just as we see in the old testament depends on your understanding of what Jesus meant by 'coming to fulfill the law' Matthew 5:17.

On page 20 of my book " Experience God's Glory" I quote: the understanding of this statement (I came to fulfill the law) is vital to the importance Jews and gentiles placed on the symbols, rituals, typologies, figures of speech, types and shadows, objects, numbers, garments and prophecies found in the old testament.

By fulfilling the law, Jesus did not mean to negate its authenticity.  He himself was born, lived, and carried out his ministry under the law.  The law was to guide his actions and beliefs.  Because he was the fulfillment of the law, his attitude towards the law was being watched with critical interest, since they would indicate his approval or disapproval.

1. Jesus’ life and ministry demonstrated that fulfilling the law meant reinterpreting portions, and approving those that have been divinely endorsed to be carried over into the New Testament church. With regards to the purpose of our study on worship, the religious laws, which he re-interpreted are what I refer to in my book as 'Pillars', which are found in the Tabernacle of Moses; and the ones he did not reinterpret are the expressive mediums found in the Tabernacle of David, which are the use of musical instruments and body expressions.

A. He openly reinterpreted the laws claiming to be their fulfillment.  Examples are: The bread of life (John6:31-35), The Passover (1 Cor 5:17) and The Sabbath (Col 2:16-17)
